The exact cause of eczema is not fully understood, but it is thought to result from a combination of genetic, environmental, and immune factors.

Common symptoms of eczema include:

  • Intense itching, which can lead to scratching and further skin irritation

  • Red or brownish-gray patches on the skin, typically found on the hands, feet, ankles, wrists, neck, upper chest, eyelids, inside the bend of the elbows and knees, and in infants, on the scalp and face

  • Dry, sensitive skin

  • Thickened, cracked skin

  • Small, raised bumps that may leak fluid and crust over when scratched

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by dry, itchy, and inflamed skin.

Eczema

Eczema is a multi-factorial issue. For one person it may be one thing, for another person it may be a couple different things. I will go over the most common causes and solutions here.

Factors Contributing to Eczema:

  • Yeast (included in this is mold, see below for further information)

  • Parasites

  • Gut and Skin Microbiome Imbalance

  • Environmental Exposures

  • Dry skin, winter, low humidity

  • Food Intolerances/Histamine

  • Nutrient Deficiency

  • Vaccines

Eczema can be due to one of these things or all of these things. It is important to start with a couple things and continue to support the body through various methods. It will take a multi-pronged approach especially for those with severe or recurrent eczema.
